Turning PROBLEMS Into PATHWAYS!

For years engineers dreamed of constructing a canal across Panama. It was one of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken. The canal is an artificial 51 mile waterway in Panama that connects the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean and divides North and South America. It was started in 1904 and took 10 years to complete. One of the ways the workers maintained their morale was with this song.

Got any river they say is uncrossable? Got any mountains that can’t be cut through?

We specialize in the wholly impossible,

Doing things nobody ever could do!

In 1942, those lyrics were turned into a gospel song based on the biblical account of the parting of the Jordan River as the Jews crossed over into the Promised Land.

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?

Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?

God specializes in things thought impossible—

He does the things others cannot do.

I find those lyrics encouraging! The world is getting worse and it’s particularly difficult here in New England. Whether it’s the high cost of living, concern for their kids in the public schools, or the increased crime rate, it’s not unusual to hear of family

or friends who have thrown up their hands and moved out of Rhode Island. I must admit that the thought of joining friends in Florida or Texas crosses my minds on occasion. But easier is not always better and I like the thought of a challenge and living with purpose. Besides, you know the old saying, the grass is not always greener!

This year Rhode Island Family Institute will be investing in Rhode Island youth and children in the following ways:

  1. We will be helping private schools to collaborate more to keep tuition down, increase enrollment, and offer more by way of sports and earning college credits while in High School.

  2. We will continue to lobby both political parties for family-friendly legislation that respects traditional family values.

  3. We will continue to provide workshops and education to help more churches and parents deal with difficult moral issues like transgenderism and LGBTQ+ affecting our children.

  4. We will pray and work to repeal the conversion therapy ban that prevents professional counselors from counseling minors away from those lifestyles.

  5. We are offering training for elected school board members as well as candidates. to equip and encourage them to withstand the intense pressure from activist school administrators and teachers that are usurping parental rights and indoctrinating children with pleasure-based Sex-ed and Marxist ideology. 6. There is a cost, let me know if you need help with it.

I want to reassure you that there is HOPE for Rhode Island. God is not done with us yet, and just as the songs says… “God specializes in things thought impossible and He does the things others cannot do.” Together we can turn PROBLEMS into PATHWAYS!
