Walgreens and CVS are selling the abortion pill mifepristone now that the FDA has dropped a long-standing rule that required patients to obtain the abortion pill in-person at clinics, hospitals and other certified health-care providers.
This decision by the two largest drug store chains in the U.S. will significantly expand access to mifepristone also known as RU-486 or simply "the abortion pill" in states where abortion is legal. These companies cannot offer the pill in states that have banned abortion following the overturning Roe v. Wade, but that is NOT Rhode Island.

These companies cannot offer the pill in states that have completely banned abortion in the wake of the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. To their credit, Walmart has not followed suit and I have now switched all my Rx’s to WALMART and I encourage everyone to do the same.
When you hear the horror stories related to the abortion pill, it’s a no-brainer! It a myth that Chemical Abortion is a safe procedure. Washington Watch, an arm of Family Research Council with whom we are networked, recently reported that between 2000 and 2001 there were 4,471 adverse events reported to the FDA related to chemical abortions. These events included 26 Maternal Deaths, 103 Ectopic Pregnancies, 481 patients who required blood transfusions, and 1,186 Hospitalizations. It’s important to note that the numbers only represent the adverse events reported to the FDA and only those made on a voluntary basis
